Each week SDS will investigate what Google results tell us about the Southeastern Conference. This week, we analyze the search results between first place Alabama and last place Vanderbilt.

2014 hasn’t been kind to Vanderbilt. After two straight nine-win seasons, the Commodores opened with a shocking blowout loss to Temple and a more foreseeable rout by Ole Miss. On Saturday, Vandy needed a late-game rally and a shanked field goal to beat lowly UMass.

Alabama, on the other hand, currently ranks as the No. 1 team in the conference and is off to a 3-0 start. The Tide continue to look like a national powerhouse and will likely contend for the national championship this season.

Here’s what Google knows about the two teams:

Hot Seat

First year head coach Derek Mason has already felt the heat from his proverbial coaching throne.

While the coach with the most job security in the conference has far less page results.

Let’s dig a little deeper, shall we? Inspired by the launch of FireDerekMason.com (following the first touchdown of Week 2, mind you) here’s how many search results come up with the same key words.

Believe it or not, there’s a similar site dedicated to Saban, calling for the four-time national champion’s job as well.

Fan Support

Winning brings an increased fan support and this comparison is proof. Alabama– the winningest program in SEC history– has one of the most rabid fan bases in the conference. Vanderbilt, on the other hand, is– at best– the second most popular team in Nashville to rival Tennessee.

Here’s a look at Vandy’s “Anchor Down” phrase

How about fight songs? Here’s how “Dynamite” ranks against “Yea, Alabama”

Heisman Voting

While Vanderbilt struggles to figure out its quarterback roulette situation, Alabama has several offensive players that could be in consideration for the Heisman Trophy this December.
