Jaquaze Sorrells is arriving at South Carolina. Just not quite as early as the Gamecocks had thought.

Sorrells, the lone member of South Carolina’s 2019 signing class not yet on campus, announced on Twitter on Wednesday night that he will join the Gamecocks in January. That means the defensive tackle won’t be playing for them this season.

Sorrells then sent a follow-up tweet stating, “Everything happens for a reason and I’m gone make the most out of it.”

Sorrells, a 4-star recruit, was the No. 157 player in the 2019 recruiting class per the 247sports composite rankings. He was the No. 14 defensive tackle and the No. 21 recruit from Florida.

South Carolina coach Will Muschamp had been optimistic that Sorrells would join the team for the 2019 season, but that won’t be the case. Because Sorrells won’t be there, his college clock won’t start until he joins the program in January.

Sorrells will still have plenty of time to make an impact on the Gamecocks’ defense, even if it’s not as soon as they had originally thought.
