Amid growing frustrations from the fan base, Gamecocks rallying to support Will Muschamp
In coach Will Muschamp’s fifth season at South Carolina, the Gamecocks are 2-4 and have opened the quarterback position to a potential new starter this week at Ole Miss.
But while the fan base grows increasing frustrated and irritated with Muschamp, the players have rallied to his support, including TE Nick Muse. Many of the fans point to a $13.4 million buyout of Muschamp and the need to raise money to pay him off because the program has slipped from Muschamp’s first couple of seasons and has not shown improvement overall from last year’s 4-8 record.
“Hopefully it never comes to it but I’d take a bullet for him,” Muse told reporters on Tuesday. He added that no one likes losing and they know that needs to change. Muschamp and Mike Bobo have made changes this week and now it’s about going out there on Saturday and getting a win.
“My dad has a saying,” Muse said, “he can say whatever he wants but he’s just a fat dad in the stands.”
Muse also took note of “Karens” and “couch coaches” who talk as if they know more than the coaches.
RB Deshaun Fenwick also offered support for Muschamp and said there will always be outside noise, and he’s do anything for Muschamp.
