Dawn Staley may not be a typical caller to “The Paul Finebaum Show,” but she keeps tabs on the chatter. The South Carolina women’s basketball coach called in to the show on Friday after her team beat LSU on Thursday night, 76-70, in Baton Rouge.

At the end of an interview on Friday afternoon, Staley said, “I heard you had some callers last week talking about us. Let the floodgates open.”

Finebaum: “Yeah, we had a guy call in from Louisiana who’s guaranteeing a victory, and I tried to talk him off that ledge, coach.”

Staley: “Hey Paul, tell Dwayne I said hi, I think his name was Dwayne.”

Dwayne from New Orleans, in fact, is a regular caller and LSU supporter.

“Talked a big game, went to the game, he called us on his way and he just got smacked down by the best in the business,” Finebaum said.

The next caller, John from Louisville, another regular, asked about a welfare check on Dwayne after the loss.

Finebaum responded, “I don’t think we have to after Dawn Staley simply cut his heart out, actually she cut a few things out lower than the heart, but we’ll leave that until Dwayne’s call.”

Finebaum appeared to enjoy the exchange, and quickly called it the headline of the show.

“The headline of the show already is ‘Watch your mouth.’ Some of you might have just put it on, but Dawn Staley just stuffed a basketball down Dwayne’s throat,” Finebaum said. “Dwayne’s the know-it-all from New Orleans, who just got side-swiped.”
