Jermaine Couisnard, a South Carolina guard, has announced his plans for next season as new coach Lamont Paris sees his latest departure from the Gamecocks’ roster.

Couisnard wrote on Instagram that he would enter the transfer portal, as he is the second player to enter the portal this week, joining Erik Stevenson. Couisnard wrote that he’s looking for opportunities to grow his career professionally. He said it was a bittersweet decision because he not only chose to play at South Carolina, but also for coach Frank Martin, who was fired nearly 2 weeks ago. Couisnard went so far to say that Martin saved his life from the dangerous streets of his home town. He is from East Chicago, Indiana.

Couisnard led the Gamecocks in scoring this past season as he averaged 12 points per game in 24.8 minutes per game. He also was the team’s leader in assists at 3.2 and steals at 1.1.

The move is the latest in terms of roster makeover for the Gamecocks, especially in terms of scoring.

Couisnard started 46 of 78 games the past 3 seasons, including 16 of 31 this past season.

The Gamecocks and Paris now are without their top 3 scorers from last season, including Stevenson, who was second on the team at 11.6 points a game, and entered the transfer portal earlier this week. James Reese V averaged 10 points a game, but has completed his eligibility.
