Shane Beamer will be at work to put together his first staff as the head coach of South Carolina. According to FootballScoop.com, there are several names to keep an eye on over the coming weeks.

With defensive coordinator Travaris Robinson not expected to be retained by Beamer, FootballScoop reports that Beamer could look to Jay Bateman, the co-defensive coordinator at North Carolina, or Chad Staggs, who holds the same position at Coastal Carolina.

As far as an offensive coordinator is concerned, according to FootballScoop, Beamer could look to SMU’s Garrett Riley. Riley is the younger brother of Oklahoma head coach Lincoln Riley and is in his 1st year leading the Mustangs offense after a season at Appalachian State.

Two current coaches are expected to be kept on board: former Gamecock great Connor Shaw, named interim quarterbacks coach in place of Mike Bobo after Bobo was elevated to interim head coach following the firing of Will Muschamp. Rod Wilson, the linebackers coach, is also expected to be retained.

Whether Beamer is the one to breathe new life into the Gamecocks program remains to be seen, but who he picks as his assistants is critical as he looks to gain momentum right out of the gate.
