USC wide receiver Pharoh Cooper has quietly put together a great season.

He ranks No.2 in the SEC with 887 yards receiving and seven touchdowns. While the Gamecocks have had an unforgettable season for all the wrong reasons, Cooper has been a bright spot posting five games with more than 100 yards.

But last week, the junior announced that he would be skipping his senior season and declaring for the NFL.

Let’s be honest, for Cooper, the decision was a no brainer. He’s currently in his prime and there’s too many things that could go wrong during his senior season. We’ve seen injuries strike and kill the futures for potential NFL players. Their window is short, and Cooper understood that.

USC is clearly in a rebuilding stage, and there’s no telling how that would effect his draft status if he stayed another year.

At 5-foot-11, 207 pounds, Cooper will most likely be used in the slot at the next level. His speed and athleticism should suit him well.

The Gamecocks will be in a tough spot when it comes to wide receivers in 2016. Behind Cooper, the next most productive WR is junior Matrick Belton with just 11 catches for 121 yards.

If there is a silver lining, USC has already landed commitments from a pair of solid WR prospects, but there is no way to tell if/when they will produce. Kevin Harmon is the most promising, at 6-foot-2, 196 pounds, the four-star WR has the tools to contribute right away. The other commitment is from Chris Smith, a two-star recruit with a similar build as Cooper.

One thing is for certain. No matter who is lined up at WR at USC next season, they will have big shoes to fill.
