Shane Beamer has strong reaction about national perception of Spencer Rattler
Shane Beamer believes his starting quarterback is being overlooked heading into the beginning of the season.
The South Carolina head coach went to bat for his quarterback Spencer Rattler, who he believes is not getting the respect he deserves nationally.
“Spencer’s play on the field will speak for itself,” Beamer said in his press conference Tuesday. “Frankly it’s pretty disappointing just to see maybe the lack of respect on the outside. But again, we worry about what we can control and I’m excited for Spencer.”
Rattler had an impressive year a season ago. He threw for over 3,000 yards and had 18 touchdowns while leading South Carolina to some huge wins over Tennessee and Clemson.
Rattler is looking to repeat that success this season, and Beamer believes he doesn’t need national praise to motivate and encourage him.
“Spencer’s a guy, he doesn’t need any of that to motivate him, but as his head coach and someone that thinks the world of the kid, it’s surprising to see some of the preseason watchlists and things like that,” Beamer said.
