Shane Beamer is being nationally recognized as the top coach for Week 6 of the college football season. Officials from the Bobby Dodd Coach of the Year Foundation and Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl announced Monday that the South Carolina head football coach has been selected as The Dodd Trophy Coach of the Week.

Beamer earned his first victory over a ranked opponent as South Carolina upset then-No. 13 Kentucky 24-14 this past weekend. Saturday marked the Gamecocks first road win over the Wildcats since the 2012 season. Led by running back MarShawn Lloyd (110 yards, TD), Beamer’s squad scored 17 unanswered points.

“Winning conference games was always a priority for Coach Dodd, and he always prepared his teams to battle hostile environments and favored opponents,” Jim Terry, chairman of the Bobby Dodd Coach of the Year Foundation said in a released statement. “It’s easy to see why Coach Beamer is considered one of college football’s top young coaches. He had the Gamecocks ready to do the same.”

The organization also recognized Beamer for his charity work and South Carolina’s impressive Academic Progress Rate of 990 in 2021.

“Managing a program that not only succeeds on the field, but also in the classroom, is a challenging and noteworthy task,”Peach Bowl, Inc. CEO & President Gary Stokan said in a release. “Less than two years in, Coach Beamer is already leaving his mark on the South Carolina football program across all three pillars of scholarship, leadership and integrity.”

Kirk Herbstreit also named Beamer a top coach for Week 6.
