Shane Beamer and the South Carolina Gamecocks pulled off a clutch 37-30 win over Mississippi State on Saturday night.

The Gamecocks’ offense was a main reason for the team’s home victory, and Shane Beamer went out of his way to praise 2 of his offensive stars specifically in the postgame interview on the SEC Network.

Cole Cubelic asked Beamer about Spencer Rattler’s amazing performance. Rattler hadn’t thrown a single incompletion at halftime and ended the game with just two incompletions.

“He’s playing out of his mind right now,” Beamer said. “I saw where he was 13-of-13 at halftime, it’s kind of like when a pitcher’s got a no-hitter going, I didn’t want to say anything to him. But he’s a big-time player, and being able to run for some first downs. He’s a better athlete than people give give him credit for, he did an awesome job for us tonight.”

Rattler finished the win with 288 yards and 3 touchdowns, but the Gamecocks’ running game found momentum as well. Mario Anderson led the way with 88 yards on the ground and a touchdown.

Beamer didn’t hold back when asked about Anderson and the Gamecocks’ rushing success as a whole.

“I was proud of the way he ran the ball tonight, he runs physical, that’s who he is, he’s really worked hard to become a better running back, so it was fun watching him run tonight,” Beamer said of Anderson. “Fun watching our offensive line, you know that is a good front line, that is a veteran defense with a bunch of really good players. Those 2 linebackers 44, and 14 are really unbelievable. For us to be able to run the ball tonight, it’s a team effort, but really proud of Mario.”

It’s clear Beamer understands how important 2 of his team’s offensive stars are to the team’s success. That duo will have to keep these big-time performances rolling if the Gamecocks want to win their next 2 games against Tennessee and Florida, both ranked in the top 25.
