As South Carolina prepares to open the 2019 season with a game against North Carolina in Charlotte, the Gamecocks may be working to bring some more Power 5 foes to Columbia in the coming years.

South Carolina athletic director Ray Tanner is in discussions to bring some Power 5 schools into Williams-Brice Stadium.

“We’re talking to a couple of schools about home-and-homes, Power 5 schools, that would be very interesting and very exciting,” Tanner said. “We would fill the seats and would be good for everybody.”

Speaking to 107.5 “The Game,” Tanner did not dismiss any of the possibilities host Jay Phillips mentioned, involving schools such as Florida State, North Carolina and NC State.

The Gamecocks face North Carolina in a neutral site game in Charlotte Saturday at Bank of America Stadium.

Tanner said that neutral site games like the one against North Carolina will not go away, but more schools are looking to schedule home-and-home games with  one-another because payouts to bring another team in have proven to be expensive.
