South Carolina has been one of the hottest teams in college basketball recently, and the Gamecocks were finally rewarded on Monday with a ranking in the AP Top 25.

The Gamecocks checked in at No. 15 in the latest poll, as Tennessee led the SEC at No. 6, followed by No. 12 Auburn, No. 16 Alabama and No. 17 Kentucky. Even after an upset 2 weeks ago of then-No. 6 Kentucky, the Gamecocks fell outside of last week’s poll, although they had the most votes, effectively No. 26 in the country. Alabama’s move up 8 spots was the biggest jump in the poll.

South Carolina landed another midweek blow last week with a win at Tennessee, and followed that up with another victory over Georgia on Saturday.

Tennessee fell one spot to No. 6 after losing at home to the now-No. 15 Gamecocks, but bounced back with a win at Kentucky.

It’s South Carolina’s first appearance in the poll since February 2017. The Gamecocks joined San Diego State as the week’s new additions, replacing Oklahoma and TCU.

There was no movement at the top of the poll after a weekend filled with ranked matchups. Purdue won at Wisconsin and UNC beat rival Duke, while Kansas bounced Houston, which vaulted the Jayhawks to No. 4 and dropped the Cougars one spot to No. 5. The top 3 teams are still UConn, Purdue and North Carolina.
