South Carolina had an unexpected bye week when its game against Marshall on Saturday was cancelled due to Hurricane Florence.

The Gamecocks haven’t played since a 41-17 loss to Georgia on Sept. 8. They’ll return to action on Saturday, when they travel to Vanderbilt.

“It was weird. It feels like we haven’t played a game in like 75 days,” South Carolina defensive tackle Javon Kinlaw told the media, including The State, on Tuesday. “I am just ready to get back and play a game. I have never really experienced that before, but I feel like we handled it well as a group.”

Some of Kinlaw’s teammates expressed similar feelings when speaking to the media on Tuesday.

“It was a long week, it kind of dragged, but I enjoyed the time off, actually,” wide receiver Bryan Edwards said, according to The State. “Georgia seems so long ago. I’m ready to strap it up and get that taste out of my mouth.”

“We usually only get one weekend off during the season, so it was nice,” running back Rico Dowdle said, per The State. “It was nice, but it has been forever. Looking forward to getting out there.”

The Gamecocks are 1-1 entering their matchup at Vanderbilt.
