South Carolina has seen one of its potential breakout players on offense announce plans to look to play elsewhere.

E.J. Jenkins, a tight end who flashed at last year’s spring game, wrote on social media that he would enter the transfer portal after he thanked Shane Beamer, the coaching staff and fans for him being a part of the 2021 season.

Jenkins, a 6-foot-7 and 240-pounder who was an FCS transfer from St. Francis is set to play in his sixth college season. Jenkins was viewed as a hybrid-type player who worked at both wide receiver and tight end and can be used in multiple situations. At St. Francis, he caught 44 passes for 831 yards for the Red Flash before he got to South Carolina.

Jenkins last season made one start and played in 12 games as he caught 8 passes for 117 yards, a 14.6-yard average. Jenkins made 2 catches for 28 yards, including his lone TD reception in the win over Troy.
