South Carolina women’s basketball has been a golden standard throughout Dawn Staley’s tenure leading the program. The reigning national champs are 21-1 overall and undefeated in SEC play while ranked No. 2 nationally.

One of the secrets Staley has shared to South Carolina‘s success rests in its elite practice squad. Known as “The Highlighters,” the Gamecocks use an all-men practice squad to scrimmage against during practices.

Staley has pointed to that unit as a key to her program as a way that allows South Carolina to prepare in ways that other teams do not. That practice squad also received a unique NIL deal recently.

Believed to be one of the first of its kind, The Highlighters received a deal with OOFOS recovery shoes. It is the first practice squad to receive a deal through OOFOS.

Dawn Staley herself reacted to the news on social media, expressing her appreciation for the unit and their hard work and dedication:

Throughout Staley’s tenure, South Carolina has captured 3 national championships, including last season. For their contributions, Staley has said The Highlighters receive rings any time the Gamecocks win, and now they’ll get a bit more love through their own NIL deal.
