Spencer Rattler and South Carolina lit up Tennessee in a massive 63-38 victory last season at home. Now that they’re headed to Neyland Stadium, the senior quarterback is well aware that the Vols will have revenge on their minds.

South Carolina is 2-2 after a 37-30 home victory against Mississippi State. When asked about his expectations heading into the Week 5 clash against No. 21 Tennessee, Rattler answered in a business-like manner.

“I know you guys probably hate this answer but you know what I’m going to say. It’s the same thing every game. Nameless, faceless opponents,” Rattler said. “You know they’re going to want to obviously get a win back on us, so we’ve got to be prepared. We’ve got to go out there and keep our emotion out of the way of our execution. Just go out there and execute and have a good time out there and play hard.”

In last season’s meeting, Rattler reeled off 438 yards, 6 touchdowns, and no interceptions. Rattler has passed for 1,242 yards, 7 touchdowns, and 2 interceptions this season.

The 6-foot-1, 217-pound Phoenix native deflects the praise off his strong start in 2023.

“This isn’t a surprise to me or our team. We’re doing well as a group,” Rattler said. “…I just love what we’re doing. We’ve got to keep stacking it and we’ve got to keep working. We’re nowhere near where we want to be.”

Tennessee is coming off a bounce back 45-14 win vs. UTSA after falling to Florida in Week 3. South Carolina at Tennessee is slated for a 7:30 p.m. EST kickoff on Saturday (SEC Network).
