Steve Spurrier can’t resist a good zinger.

The Head Ball Coach is in Columbia on Saturday as South Carolina is honoring the 2010-13 teams that took the program to new heights under Spurrier. One of South Carolina’s most remembered wins under Spurrier came against Michigan in a bowl game.

Spurrier saw an opportunity to bring up the Michigan sign-stealing scandal. The HBC joked that the Wolverines did not have the Gamecocks’ signs.

Spurrier’s 2012 squad defeated U-M 33-28 in the Outback Bowl. Brady Hoke coached Michigan’s 2012 team. Allegations of sign-stealing stem from recent seasons, including 2023, during Jim Harbaugh’s tenure.

Spurrier resigned as South Carolina’s head coach during the 2015 season, Harbaguh’s first as Michigan’s head coach. Spurrier finished as South Carolina’s all-time leading coach in wins, going 86-49. From 2011-13, Spurrier’s teams had 3 consecutive seasons with 11 wins.

After Will Muschamp’s tenure, South Carolina brought in Shane Beamer, a former Spurrier assistant, as head coach. Beamer’s squad is 2-6 so far this season and currently locked in a cock fight with Jacksonville State. That game is airing on ESPNU.
