It was a rough Saturday evening for South Carolina coach Will Muschamp. The afternoon started well, as the Gamecocks built a 20-9 lead a little after the midway point of the third quarter and then were in prime position to add insurance points following a takeaway.

But then things changed. North Carolina, while starting a freshman quarterback, stormed back and handed South Carolina a 24-20 defeat following two Jake Bentley interceptions.

As one would expect, Muschamp was not pleased with his team after the loss. While conducting an interview with Todd Ellis for Gamecock Football, Muschamp looked furious. Fortunately, he answered Ellis’ questions without incident, but Muschamp spent a lot of time just staring straight into the camera with a very angry look on his face.

As Muschamp mentioned during the interview, South Carolina started a drive after recovering a fumble at the North Carolina 42-yard line late in the third quarter. But that drive started with two straight penalties and resulted in a punt.

North Carolina then strung together a pair of 90-plus yard drives on its next two possessions to take the lead. South Carolina didn’t score any points in the game’s final 20 minutes.

This is a hard one to swallow for the Gamecocks, which is why Muschamp looked so furious. South Carolina will look to rebuild this Saturday in its home opener against Charleston Southern.
