Shane Beamer was very pleased with his special teams units, especially the punt block team, after a huge win over Georgia State thanks in large part to 2 blocked punts turned touchdowns.

After the game, he spoke on the SEC Network+ broadcast, and shared his thoughts.

“We needed it tonight, that’s a good football team we just beat,” Beamer said. “We know there’s some other SEC teams that have played these guys and aren’t having the feeling that we’re having now, and had that thing in control in the fourth quarter. Three phases of football all did some good stuff today and it was awesome to see the special teams really have a big day.”

“Just the way that our guys make stops,” he said. “We were able to block those punts because we kept getting stops on defense and coming into this game, we knew we needed to stop the run, we knew we needed to hit the quarterback, and for the most part, we did that. We talked about it at halftime, it was ugly and it was going to be a four-quarter game. We needed to get better as the game went along, and felt like we did.”

Beamer said the team fought through adversity, especially on offense.

“And find a way to win by 3 touchdowns against a good football team, we’ve got a lot to improve,” he said. “A lot, before we go out to Arkansas next week. But there’s a lot to build on. We’ve got to continue to coach better and play better and get ready to go play a really good team next week.”
