Jimbo Fisher brought Florida State a BCS national championship in the 2013 season, but there’s a case to be made that he wasn’t the star coach on FSU campus during his time in Tallahassee. Legendary college baseball coach Mike Martin was the Seminole skipper from 1980-2019. On Wednesday night, Fisher cited Martin as an example of learning from other coaches.

TexAgs shared a Fisher quote from his weekly radio show. When asked about learning from other coaches, Fisher pointed to Martin.

“You learn from everybody,” Fisher recalled. “One of my best friends in the world was Mike Martin, the winningest college baseball coach in history. I would sit right next to the dugout and watch him.”

Fisher didn’t specify if he was in the FSU dugout when Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback Jameis Winston was also a member of Martin’s baseball team. Martin, often referred to by broadcasters as his jersey number “11,” retired with a record of 2029-736-4.
