Texas A&M got a boost to its 2016 recruiting class on Saturday, landing a commitment from an elite defensive end prospect. Four-star prospect Mark Jackson Jr. tweeted out his commitment on Saturday evening.

Jackson, a Cibolo, Texas native, had his future head coach fired up when he picked the Aggies over a few of Texas A&M’s old Big 12 rivals, including Texas and Oklahoma.

At 6-foot-2 and 225 pounds, Jackson seems to fit the mold of rangy, athletic defensive ends favored by Aggies defensive coordinator John Chavis. Jackson comes at a position of need as well, as the Aggies are looking to boost their group of pass rushers after signing just one in 2015.

Jackson, the No. 9 defensive end in the country, becomes the eighth player to commit to the Aggies for the class of 2016. He’s only the third defensive player, joining two Texan cornerbacks. In fact, all eight of Texas A&M’s commitments hail from the state of Texas, backing up the Aggies’ “We Run This State” slogan.
