Texas A&M and Ball State both put on offensive shows in their season openers. The Aggies racked up 38 points in a convincing 21-point win over No. 15 Arizona State, who fell out of the Associated Press poll following the loss. The Cardinals outscored Virginia Military Institute 48-36 in their opener.

Both teams had big question marks on defense coming into the season, so fans at Kyle Field may be treated to some offensive fireworks. Here are five players to watch from both teams:

Texas A&M QB Kyle Allen – Coach Kevin Sumlin gave the starting job to Allen over Kyler Murray during camp, but hasn’t been shy about alternating both quarterbacks. After spending most of the third quarter on the bench against the Sun Devils, Allen came back in the fourth quarter, running for a touchdown and throwing for another. He also threw a touchdown pass in the first quarter. Allen has a golden opportunity Saturday to show he should be Sumlin’s clear choice under center. Going against a defense that was ranked 112th in the country in 2014 may give him the confidence to make that statement.

Texas A&M WR Christian Kirk – The 5-foot-11, 200-pound true freshman from Arizona was heavily recruited by the Sun Devils, but chose instead to sign with Texas A&M. He’s an electrifying playmaker at wide receiver and on punt returns. He broke three tackles and returned a punt 79 yards for a touchdown that put the Aggies up 14-0 in the second quarter. He also caught a pass from Allen and dashed 66 yards for another score that gave his team a 31-17 lead.

Texas A&M DE Myles Garrett – The preseason All-America and All-SEC selection broke the conference freshman sacks record last season with 11.5. Garrett picked up where he left off against the Sun Devils with two sacks, three quarterback hurries and forced a fumble. He and fellow DE Daeshon Hall are being counted on to lead a redesigned Aggie defense under new coordinator John Chavis.

Ball State QB Jack Milas – The Cardinals had quite a battle at quarterback during last season’s spring drills, with four players competing for the starting job. Milas is the clear choice this year, and put up solid numbers against VMI, completing 34 of 53 passes for 388 yards with a touchdown and an interception.

Ball State RB Darian Green – He has some big shoes to fill, replacing the school’s all-time leading rusher Jahwan Edwards. But he showed promise in last Thursday’s win over VMI, rushing for 73 yards, adding 74 more through the air, and tying a team record with four total touchdowns.
