Buzz Williams scored his first NCAA Tournament win at Texas A&M Friday night, leading the Aggies to a convincing 98-83 win over Nebraska.

The Aggies controlled the entirety of the game and drained their 3-pointers while playing strong defense and outrebounding the Cornhuskers. Wade Taylor, Manny Obaseki and Tyrece Radford combined to score 67 of the Aggies’ 98 points in the win.

Now, it’s onward to Houston, which may very well possess the best defense in the tournament. HC Kelvin Sampson is one of the best coaches in the nation and Houston is looking to make a 4th straight trip to the 2nd weekend against the Aggies on Sunday.

Williams was asked about Sampson and the Cougars on Friday night. The 2 Texas teams have faced off once before this season, with Houston narrowly edging the Aggies 70-66 in Houston back in December.

Here’s what Williams had to say about Sampson and the Aggies.

“I think Coach is the best example of what a coach is supposed to be as a man and as a coach in the country,” Williams said, via ASAP Sports. “I think he’s been that for decades now. Obviously I’ve known him since I was a kid. And I hold him in the literally the highest of regards personally and professionally.”

He continued later regarding the scout for the game on Sunday:

“Once you get into conference play, the coaches that say they watch a lot of games, I’m just not smart enough to do that,” Williams said. “The only games I’m watching are of our next opponent. So I really don’t know much, but I do know that there is some familiarity with what they do. But it’s really how they do it. They’re the second No. 1 seed because of how hard they play and how competitive they are and how every single thing you try to do is a tug of war.”

More about the matchup:

Top sportsbooks in the country have Houston as a moderate favorite over the Aggies, whose conference has really struggled at this point in the tournament. Only Texas A&M, Tennessee and Alabama remain of the 8 SEC teams that cracked the field.

FanDuel currently has the Aggies +9.5 for tomorrow’s battle against the No. 1 seed. That spread seems to be a little disrespectful to the Aggies in my personal opinion.

Houston, as stated earlier, leans on its suffocating defense and has an all-American in Jamal Shead at guard. But there are some chinks in the armor that Texas A&M can exploit.

For one, the Cougars are not an elite in the frontcourt offensively. That doesn’t mean they can’t score the ball – Houston boasts the No. 16 offense in the country according to KenPom – but they only hit 48% of their 2-point field goals and struggle to score in the paint at a high clip.

They’re also slightly undersized, as shocking as that may be. But don’t mistake being undersized as lacking toughness, because we can assure you that is not the case. This Houston team plays defense unlike any you’ve ever seen, and it’s a treat to watch them defend guards.
