Lost in a bit of the reaction to Florida’s surprising ranking following Tuesday night’s College Football Playoff reveal is Texas A&M’s perch just outside of the top four. ESPN analyst Desmond Howard said he’s not overlooking the Aggies.

“I think the team that has the best chance is the team that no one’s talking about and that’s Texas A&M,” Howard said on “Get Up.” “But they’re sitting there, still at No. 5, and people really aren’t giving them their just due. I don’t understand why. You hear some arguments saying, ‘Well, they played Alabama once, do you really want to see that again?’ That shouldn’t even factor into the equation if you think by their resume they deserve to be a top four team.”

Howard added that it seemed to him like the Playoff committee loves the SEC because of what he called “mind blowing” that Florida could lose to what he called, “one of the worst teams in the conference, who’s having an awful year, at home, and then only drop one slot down.” He noted there are four teams from the SEC in the top 10, and two of the four have two losses.

“Florida’s sitting there with the ugliest loss of them all and they only drop one slot down, that just blew my mind,” Howard said.

Howard also predicted chaos with respect to the CFP following Saturday’s conference championship games.
