Texas A&M and Aggie fans everywhere went through a wide array of emotions Saturday evening. In the end, it resulted in an apparent about-face from the program regarding the head coaching vacancy.

According to initial reports, Texas A&M was prepared to hire Kentucky head coach Mark Stoops. Stoops has been with the Wildcats since 2013 and has delivered a consistent run for the program since the start of the 2016 season.

The reaction from fans to those reports was far from positive, and Stoops confirmed Sunday morning that he is indeed remaining with Kentucky moving forward. How the Aggies move forward in their search remains to be seen, but social media had a field day with the situation.

Some compared the situation surrounding Stoops to Tennessee reportedly trying to hire Greg Schiano in the past. One joked that Texas A&M got Mark Stoops confused with Bob Stoops, Mark’s brother and national championship-winning coach at Oklahoma. Even others joked about the briefness of Stoops’ reported tenure with the Aggies.
