Jimbo Fisher fired: Fans, media react to reported ousting of head coach

Jimbo Fisher is reportedly being fired by Texas A&M with reports starting to roll out early Sunday morning. The news actually comes on the heels of a big win against Mississippi State, but that win did little to mask the issues of the Aggies.
Overall, the Aggies are 6-4 this season with losses to Miami, Alabama, Tennessee and Ole Miss. Texas A&M must still face LSU before the end of the season with Fisher’s program well off the pace of SEC West leader Alabama.
After a 5-7 season a year ago, there was some optimism for the Aggies heading into 2023. That optimism was not realized, and Fisher is officially 45-25 overall during his A&M tenure. Meanwhile, Kevin Sumlin went 51-26 overall during his time with the Aggies.
Here is how fans and media reacted to the reports of Fisher’s firing:

Jimbo Fisher is about to get paid $70M+ to *not* do something. This is the American dream https://t.co/j9xRUgSl5d

$77 million buyout.
With no offset language, Jimbo could coach elsewhere and still receive this windfall.
I can’t comprehend why schools agree to these terms. https://t.co/kEYayKpF20

It’s official. Buyout numbers no longer matter in CFB if a school is ready to move on. That said the Aggies are paying a man $70 million to not work for them anymore ? https://t.co/4AEkYP8oQ9

The money was never in question but this coming out after a 41-point blowout win is something https://t.co/z6Kngtrrzv

I’m guessing a few college coaches will get a raise from a flirtation with Texas A&M. https://t.co/fn7XySGFTS

You’re telling me DJ Durkin, Steve Addazio, and Bobby Petrino didn’t put together a cohesive program and winning culture under the impeccable leadership of Jimbo Fisher? https://t.co/KgSNIO6oar

Figure this will move rather quickly as A&M looks to hire a new coach that can not only secure this top 10 recruiting class but also maintain the current roster as well. https://t.co/IZ7Lev0fzW

People will treat this like a bad thing or a failure, but Jimbo is 58 and he’s about to get paid $76 million to not work.
That’s the dream. https://t.co/RBrlCem7i6
