Last week, Yahoo Sports’ Pete Thamel reported that Texas A&M coach Jimbo Fisher was the “dream” hire for LSU Athletic Director Scott Woodward. Woodward hired Fisher away from Florida State to A&M in 2017 and now, with it already announced LSU coach Ed Orgeron won’t return after the season ends, Woodward is looking for another splashy hire.

Fisher keeps getting linked to the Tiger job. He appears to be tired of saying he’s not interested.

“I’ve told everybody I’m staying here and I’ve told everybody I plan on being the coach at A&M,” Fisher began when asked if he could guarantee he’d be the Aggie coach next season. “Everybody thinks all coaches lie, I know. I know y’all don’t believe us. … I’ve said the other things. I plan on being here. I love the AD. I love the president. I love the chancellor. I love living here. I love being at my ranch. My family loves it here. I love Kyle Field. I love the people. I love all that stuff, and that’s obviously not good enough. I get it.

“I read reports. People come to me, I say, ‘I don’t want to hear. I’m not interested.’

“We’re going to recruit an unbelievable class this year, OK? So (I would be) the dumbest human being on God’s earth to recruit all these guys to A&M so I can go across over here (to LSU) and go play against them. If I did that, y’all would say, ‘That’s the dumbest human being. I don’t want him to be my coach.’ We’re going to recruit a heck of a class, we’re going to have special things here, we’re building special things, they’re investing in the program, they’re investing in everything we’ve got.

“… I want to be at A&M. I plan on being at A&M. I ain’t going nowhere, I don’t wanna be nowhere else. I love being right here. Is that clean enough?”

The Aggies signed the 8th-ranked class in the country last season, according to the 247Sports Composite. They currently sit at 7-3 on the season (4-3 in SEC play). The 2022 recruiting class currently ranks 5th nationally with a pair of 5-stars committed and 12 other 4-stars.

Fisher has a point.
