Jimbo Fisher confirmed the worst for Ainias Smith, as the dynamic Texas A&M playmaker will be out for the season, the coach announced at his Monday press conference. He described it as a lower-body injury.

Fisher called it a huge loss, but added that Smith offers “Diversity and leadership and experience… He’ll be around to help those guys and mentor those guys. He’s a unique player, a unique competitor, and I love him to death.”

Smith was injured during the third quarter of Texas A&M’s 23-21 win over Arkansas in Dallas. Smith had 1 reception for 32 yards against the Razorbacks.

Over 38 games, Smith has logged 127 catches for 1,612 yards and 17 touchdowns along with 67 rushes for 384 yards and 4 TDs.

Smith suffered the injury when he was blocking a defender at the time, and was rolled up on by a couple of different players.

Smith immediately went down holding his leg. He was helped off the field by trainers while putting no weight on his leg, and he went directly into the injury tent.
