The Texas A&M Aggies have had a handful of key players opt out of the 2020 season recently, including star WR Jhamon Ausbon.
That will have an impact on the Aggies this fall, but coach Jimbo Fisher is keeping an open mind about those players.
Speaking on Saturday, Fisher said the Aggies are planning to play without them, but would welcome back any player who has opted out with open arms:
Fisher on losing some key players to opt-outs: “You have to move on, because you have to plan without them … The ability to come back is always there. And I think it has to be, because sometimes they make a decision and realize later on, ‘Hey, maybe I don't want to do that.’”

Fisher also discussed the backup QB situation behind starter Kellen Mond. After former 4-star signee James Foster re-entered the transfer portal recently, Zach Calzada and Haynes King are competing for the backup job:
Fisher: “The two young quarterbacks have been very exciting to me. I think Zach [Calzada] has really pushed himself. He's getting better at learning to use the arm talent he has, and understanding … And Haynes [King] has really made a big jump for a young guy.”
