“It’s funny because we had a few other names picked out and then obviously people called him ‘Money Manziel’ for his famous after-touchdown [celebration],” D.J. Ybanez, one of the bar’s co-owners, told The Eagle. “I just thought it was a really cool name and he loved it and the theme itself was really cool. It works.”
Ybanez said the goal is to have the establishment open before Texas A&M’s home opener on Sept. 2. It will be located at 115 College Main Street, per the report.
It’s now been more than a decade since Manziel won the Heisman Trophy at Texas A&M. As a freshman in 2012, he threw for 3,706 yards, 26 touchdowns and 9 interceptions. He became A&M’s first Heisman Trophy winner since John David Crow in 1957.
He later became a 1st round pick by the Cleveland Browns in the 2014 NFL Draft.
Manziel’s career is set to be covered in the Netflix series “Untold” later this month. The documentary, titled “Johnny Football: The rise and fall of Johnny Manziel” will be released on Aug. 8.
