Kellen Mond and Jarrett Stidham may currently be conference rivals, but the two quarterbacks have a history that goes back prior to either joining an SEC team.

Mond was committed to Baylor in 2015, when Stidham was playing for the Bears. However, a year later, Mond decommitted from Baylor and later decided to attend Texas A&M. Meanwhile, Stidham transferred from Baylor and went to Auburn for the 2017 season, which was Mond’s first with the Aggies.

This past Saturday, the two quarterbacks went head-to-head when Auburn hosted Texas A&M. Stidham’s Tigers pulled out a 28-24 win, and after the game, he and Mond met up on the field.

On Monday, Mond addressed what that postgame encounter was about.

“He told me he was proud of me. We’ve always had respect for each other,” Mond told the media, including The Dallas Morning News’ Ben Baby. “Just two friends that are chopping it up.”

Stidham passed for 239 yards and two touchdowns in Auburn’s victory. Mond had 220 passing yards and one touchdown.

Mond and Texas A&M will look to bounce back when it hosts Ole Miss this Saturday. The Aggies and Rebels are set to kick off at 12 p.m. ET.
