Texas A&M lost its fifth straight game, 13-10 to Auburn on Saturday. The Aggies are 3-7 and will not be eligible for a bowl game. It’s an amazing fall from being ranked sixth in the preseason poll. ESPN’s Matt Barrie and Paul Finebaum talked about the Aggies and their embattled coach Jimbo Fisher during their Sunday webcast.

Barrie called A&M failures one of the top three shocking stories. Finebaum wonders what Fisher’s future will be.

“Texas A&M can’t afford to fire him and they can’t afford not to fire him,” Finebaum said. “They hired him, in additional to everything else having won a national championship, because he had a reputation as one of the best offensive minds in college football.

“His credibility is at the bottom. He’s easily done the worst coaching job of anyone in college football this year.”

Finebaum said that another head coach believes that the majority of the Aggies’ top recruiting class from 2022 will test the portal.

Barrie wonders if Fisher will be able hand off the offensive playcalling to another coach. That seems questionable at best.”

“I thought a bad season for A&M was going to be 9-3,” Finebaum added.

Finebaum mentioned that Fisher’s guaranteed payout of $86 million if he’s fired tomorrow. He doesn’t seem to think it will happen, but nothing is off the table.

“86 million dollars seems like an enormous amount,” Finebaum added. “Firing him today doesn’t sound as crazy as it did four weeks ago… [but] I don’t think it will happen.”
