Texas A&M added a significant piece to its 2024 defense late Tuesday night.

The Aggies earned a commitment from ex-Alabama defensive back Dezz Ricks. He entered the transfer portal earlier this offseason following Nick Saban’s decision to retire.

Here’s Ricks’ announcement:

Ricks is a huge pickup for the Aggies. He was a 5-star prospect in the 2023 recruiting class and has the upside to be a strong, multi-year contributor for the Aggies on defense. He was the No. 25 overall player and the No. 2 cornerback in the country for his cycle, per 247Sports Composite rankings.

Although Ricks had high prospect pedigree entering the 2023 season, he did not record any statistics for the Tide this past season.

Mike Elko and his staff have been very aggressive in the transfer portal since taking over in College Station. Ricks is the 23rd transfer to commit to Texas A&M so far this offseason. Overall, A&M’s portal class sits at No. 2 nationally, per 247Sports Composite rankings.

Ricks will have 1 season of eligibility remaining.
