Over a month at the helm of Texas A&M football, Mike Elko is continuing to shape his coaching staff.

It was announced on Friday that Elko has brought on Ishmael Aristide as his defensive backs coach, and Trooper Taylor as the associate head coach and running backs coach.

Aristide was the cornerbacks coach at Duke when Elko was the Blue Devils’ head coach in 2022 and 2023. Prior to that, Aristide was a senior defensive analyst and secondary assistant during Elko’s first stint with Texas A&M from 2018 to 2021.

Aristide has also had coaching stops at Auburn in 2016 as a defensive graduate assistant, and was a senior defensive analyst and secondary assistant at Ole Miss between the 2017 and 2018 seasons.

A graduate of Purdue, Aristide was a three-year letterman playing safety and wide receiver for the Boilermakers. He also competed for Purdue’s track and field team, earning three Big Ten Academic All-Conference honors.

Taylor previously coached at Duke for five seasons, taking on the same roles that he will fulfill at Texas A&M next season. Taylor has over 30 years of coaching experience, including being on staff at Auburn during the program’s 2010 BCS National Championship run.

Taylor, who has coached in 16 bowl games, has been part of coaching staffs at Baylor, New Mexico, Tulane, Tennessee, Oklahoma State and Arkansas State.

Lettering for four seasons at Baylor between 1989 and 1992, Taylor was a defensive back for the Bears. He is currently the school’s career leader in both kickoff returns (53) and return yardage (1,063).
