Trevor Knight’s season is over.

The senior quarterback will miss the remainder of the season with a shoulder injury, Texas A&M coach Kevin Sumlin announced during a Tuesday press conference. Sumlin said Knight “at best” could return for the Aggies’ bowl game due to the injury, which he suffered in a 35-28 loss at Mississippi State last Saturday.

Junior Jake Hubenak, who completed 11-of-17 passes for 222 yards and a pair of touchdowns in Knight’s absence late week, will probably take over as Texas A&M’s starting quarterback. But Sumlin said he’s open to giving true freshman Nick Starkel, a top-25 quarterback in the class of 2016, a shot at playing.

Knight, a graduate transfer from Oklahoma, first appeared to injure himself while diving for the pylon on a touchdown run against the Bulldogs.

He returned to the game after a visit to the locker room but was declared out after taking a hit near the sideline, which Sumlin and his coaching staff have taken issue with.

Texas A&M’s offense flowed smoothly under Knight, who threw for 1,911 yards and 13 touchdowns while rushing for 583 yards and 10 scores before the injury.

The No. 10 Aggies (7-2, 4-2) will have to adjust to life without him when they host Ole Miss (4-5, 1-4) at 7:30 p.m. ET on Saturday.
