Von Miller is normally an integral part in any victory for Denver.

But in Sunday’s game against Buffalo, he said he cost the Broncos a chance at another win.

Miller, a star during his time at Texas A&M, was assessed an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty after pretending to help Buffalo quarterback Tyrod Taylor to his feet. The penalty gave the Bills, which would have been forced to punt if not for the flag, a fresh set of downs. The drive ended with a field goal that pushed their lead to seven, eventually handing the Broncos a 26-16 defeat.

Miller was kicking himself afterward.

“I can’t put my team in situations like that … I’ve got to be smarter than that,” Miller said, according to ESPN.com. “I’m always on the rookies and the young guys about being smart, doing this, doing that. And in a crucial situation in the game — I’ve just got to be better than that … I killed the game today with that play. I’ve just got to be better than that.”

At the time it occurred, both Miller and Taylor laughed it off.

Taylor was asked for his take afterward by one reporter.

“Were you laughing at Von Miller because you thought it was funny or since it was a flag?” the reporter asked.

“Both,” Taylor responded.
