Four-star inside linebacker Darrin Kirkland Jr. announced his commitment to Tennessee Monday. The senior chose the Vols over Ole Miss, Oklahoma and Texas, among 37 offered scholarships.

Kirkland ranks as the No. 4 inside linebacker and the No. 177 overall player in the 2015 recruiting class, according to the 247Sports composite rankings. Tennessee received 51 percent of the 247 crystal ball predictions to earn the blue chip prospect’s commitment.

Kirkland planned to announce his college decision on Jan. 3 during the U.S. Army All-American Bowl, but moved the date last Thursday.

The 6-foot-2, 235-pound linebacker decommitted from Michigan on Nov. 6 and took an official visit to Tennessee’s campus on Nov. 22. The four-star linebacker plans to enroll in January.
