Former Tennessee defensive back Bryce Thompson was signed by the Miami Dolphins Monday evening. Thompson was a standout in the XFL with the Seattle Sea Dragons.

Thompson went undrafted in 2021 after 3 seasons in Knoxville from 2018-2020. He was a solid defensive back for the Vols, totaling 100 tackles, 8 tackles for loss, 8 interceptions and 8 pass deflections across his tenure. Thompson is on the smaller side (5-10), which could play to why he was not drafted in 2021.

This will be Thompson’s 2nd stint in the NFL. After going undrafted, Thompson signed with the New Orleans Saints and most covered special teams in 2021-22. He found a spot with the Sea Dragons last season and totaled 34 tackles with 2 interceptions.

That move from Seattle down to Miami could be brutal:

Thompson is still young and has succeeded at every level he has played. There’s a lot of work to do, but he could make a legitimate run at cracking the 53-man roster come fall.
