Glen Elarbee has plenty of options as the Tennessee offensive line coach looks to build his unit.

For starters, Elarbee told reporters on Monday that Miami transfer John Campbell at left tackle, and Texas transfer Andrej Karic at left guard look even better now than they did on film from last season.

Elarbee explained that managing egos is involved in his job as 3 starting tackles are competing for only 2 spots.

“Ego plays a part in it,” he said. “But an offensive lineman has gotta love the guy next to him more than you love yourself.”

Speaking of ego, Elarbee said the tackles, John Campbell, Gerald Mincey, Jeremiah Crawford and Dayne Davis are all competing well and not allowing any ego to get in the way.

Elarbee had plenty of positive news to report, including Mincey with perhaps his best day of camp on Monday, and that Mincey is doing a good job of working at both left and right tackle.

Elsewhere, Elarbeesaid Addison Nichols could play center and guard similar to what Jerome Carvin did last year as there are some guys that just have to be able to do multiple positions. Elarbee also added that he hopes JaVontez Spraggins has the biggest jump on tape this fall because he’s been “awesome” all spring and summer. Spraggins brings great energy and backs it up on the field.

“You never live completely in the past,” Elarbee said. “Some proven guys may get a break but there’s always competition at this time of year.”
