Greg McElroy viciously calls out Tennessee fans responsible for #EmptyNeyland movement
SEC Network analyst Greg McElroy has a simple message for Tennessee fans who wanted to empty Neyland Stadium on Saturday against Southern Miss:
“Come at me.”
McElroy went on a rant during Monday night’s episode of “Thinking Out Loud” on the SEC Network, condemning Tennessee fans who participated in a campaign on Twitter to not show up for the game as a form of protest against head coach Butch Jones.
The Volunteers defeated Southern Miss 24-10 in front of an announced crowd of around 95,000 people.
“Last week, there was a hashtag that was making the rounds on social media … #EmptyNeyland,” McElroy said. “They (Tennessee’s players) go out there on the field wearing orange, wearing white, trying to bring you pride every single week.
“And to abandon them in a moment of need is flat out embarrassing. Anyone associated with the #EmptyNeyland trend … you failed, by the way, because 95,000 plus showed up,” McElroy continued. “So congrats, and a standing ovation to those that were there to support their team. But for those associated with the ‘Empty Neyland,’ come at me, because you are a disgrace to your fan base, and you are a disgrace to your team.”
Strong words there from the former Alabama quarterback.
“To anyone associated with the #EmptyNeyland trend, YOU FAILED… You’re a disgrace to your fan base and your team.”
