Hendon Hooker suffered a serious injury on Saturday and Tennessee fans received heartbreaking news Sunday afternoon as Tennessee football announced that Hooker sustained a torn ACL and will miss the remainder of the season.

Hooker’s injury came in the fourth quarter of the Vols’ loss to South Carolina.

Hooker ends his career at Tennessee with 6,080 yards, 58 touchdowns and just 5 interceptions. He started 21 games.

The Vols season may not end how they anticipated, but they are still likely to finish 10-2 and will play in a bowl game. Tennessee is very much ahead of schedule in Josh Heupel’s second year, even if it misses out on a College Football Playoff appearance this season.

Hooker was one of the biggest reasons Tennessee became relevant again. The Virginia Tech transfer came into Knoxville following one of the worst seasons in program history and quickly turned them into a national championship contender. Hooker gave Vol fans their first Heisman Trophy hopeful in decades and hope in general.

While Hooker still has his hopes set on the NFL Draft, he has already solidified himself as a Tennessee legend.

Following the announcement of Hooker’s injury, fans and media reacted on Twitter.
