Joey Halzle believes Joe Milton is coming into his own as the season progresses for the Tennessee Volunteers.

The Vols offensive coordinator said Tuesday that the senior play caller had one of his best games in the 33-27 over Kentucky on Saturday.

“I think it’s just been growth this season, from one week, to another, to the next,” Halzle said.

Milton completed 18-of-21 passes for 220 yards and a touchdown against the Wildcats. On the ground, the senior carried the ball 10 times for 26 yards.

“He continues to push himself and in his preparation push further his development (on the field),” Halzle said.

Halzle noted that for Milton, there’s no substitute for live reps.

“The more you get, the better you play and more comfortable you feel,” Halzle said.

So far this season for Tennessee, Milton has 1,763 passing yards, 13 TDs, 4 interceptions, 64.8 completion percentage and 139.7 QB rating.

“It’s fun watching him grow and keep diving into everything he’s been prepping for this season,” Halzle said.

Also for the Vols against Kentucky, junior tailback Jaylen Wright rushed for 120 yards and a score on 11 carries. Sophomore Dylan Sampson ran the ball 17 times for 75 yards and a TD.
