It doesn’t appear defensive lineman/linebacker John Mincey will be sticking around for the start of the Josh Heupel era.

The senior defender announced on Friday he has made the decision to enter the NCAA transfer portal.

“First and foremost, I would love to thank God for giving me all the ability to play the game football and giving me a chance to play it at the collegiate level. Secondly, I would like to thank all of the coaches at Tennessee that made me the player I am today. With that being said and after a lot of consideration, I will be entering my name in the NCAA transfer portal.”

Mincey appeared in all 10 games for Tennessee last season, registering eight tackles. In total, he made 24 appearances for the Volunteers during his three seasons on Rocky Top.

A native of Homerville, Ga., Mincey signed with Tennessee over South Carolina out of Clinch County High School.
