After Brian Maurer was basically ruled out of the Tennessee Volunteers’ starting quarterback battle, he started missing practices.

Then, last week, he announced he was entering the NCAA transfer portal, tweeting out a farewell message to Vol Nation.

On Monday, coach Josh Heupel met with the media and commented on Maurer’s looming transfer. He said he wishes Maurer the best moving forward:

In 2 years at Tennessee, Maurer completed 37 of 81 passes for 550 yards, 2 touchdowns and 5 interceptions.

Where he ends up next remains to be seen. Meanwhile, the Vols will move forward with Hendon Hooker, Joe Milton and Harrison Bailey competing for the starting job.
