Tennessee took a hit at the wide receiver position after Bru McCoy suffered a season-ending injury against South Carolina, but Josh Heupel has confidence that his receivers will be able step up and manage the load well.

Heupel has no plans to change the game plan for his receivers. Rather, he expects them to step up and do the things that McCoy did well. One of those things is running screen passes. McCoy excelled at both blocking for screens and taking screen passes himself downfield.

“Offense won’t really change,” Heupel said in his press conference Monday. “Those guys have been involved in perimeter screens where they’re the ball carrier, where they’re the blocker offensively. We feel good about their development. They’ve got to practice well, prepare well and get themselves in positions to go play well. We certainly expect that from them and I know they’re excited about the opportunity.”

Before his injury, McCoy had logged 217 yards and a touchdown on the season. Now Tennessee will have to keep its offense rolling with McCoy done for the year.

Luckily for the Vols, they had a week off to get their receivers ready. Now, they prepare for a tough game against Texas A&M on Saturday.
