After landing 5-star Alabama recruit, Tennessee adds 4-star Florida DB and former Gator commit Kamar Wilcoxson
Just when it looked like Tennessee couldn’t be getting any hotter on the recruiting trail, the Volunteers have won another big recruiting battle and landed a commitment from former Florida commit, Kamar Wilcoxson.
News of Wilcoxson’s pledge comes just a day after five-star defender Dylan Brooks announced his commitment to Jeremy Pruitt’s program. Brooks is the No. 1 prospect from Alabama and committed to Tennessee over the Crimson Tide and Auburn.
The 6-foot-1, 190-pound Wilcoxson is rated as the nation’s No. 14 safety prospect and the No. 266 overall recruit in the 2021 recruiting cycle by 247Sports Composite Rankings. He was previously committed to Florida, two times to be exact, but decommitted from Dan Mullen’s program back in March. Despite his commitment from the Gators, Florida continued to recruit Wilcoxson.
Wilcoxson commits to Tennessee over Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Georgia, LSU, USC and Ohio State.
Following this news, Tennessee now holds pledges from 12 prospects in the 2021 recruiting cycle and jumps up to the No. 7 overall recruiting class in the nation for the 2021 recruiting cycle.
Wilcoxson announced his commitment with the following video on Twitter:

Another nice pick up. Its still very early and he has committed and decommitted twice to gators but gotta like the way we are heading. Have some more big fish on the hook we gotta reel in.
This kid has at least 4 more “me” moments in this recruiting cycle.
What is making him so indecisive? youth or is he flaky?
He explained this already, he said he grew up a Florida fan, got excited and committed early when Florida offered but he didn’t put much thought into school, his future, etc.
So, he decommitted and ultimately picked Tennessee and said he is shutting down his recruiting, no more visits.
He desperately wants to be a CB. Most want him at Safety. He probably got his wish at UT.
Don’t look now but Tennessee has the #7 class in the country. I know it’s early but it still feels good to be mentioned at the top! Rocky Top – Rocky Top Tennessee #Vol4Life
I read number 7 class and thought they were doing great and then I saw 8 three stars and one unrated and realized they are ranked this high because of the size of the class.
If the size of the class automatically propelled you to the top, then why would Wisconsin, Rutgers, Maryland, and Cincy be in the teens per the rankings with double digit commits?
A large class size early in the recruiting cycle does typically yield a higher ranking. Obviously the recruits ranking factors in to, which is why those teams you listed are in the teens (they have a bunch of commits) but those teams that are in the teens won’t be there for long (lower rated players are committed to those schools) as other more quality programs start to get more higher rated commitments.
If you go by the average player rating Tenn would be 19th with an 88.50 rating.
Georgia is ranked 12th right now they have 1 five star 4 four stars an 1 three star so yes the size of the class matters. If the second half of Tenn class is identical to the current commits the class will probably be around 15th.
Another nice commit for Pruitt and staff. Hopefully his indecision is over. I’m sure they will feel better when he sighs his NLI.
UT is getting some nice commits!
