Kennedy Chandler was cut by the Memphis Grizzlies in early April, a move that blindsided both Chandler and Grizzlies fans interested in the young guard’s potential.

“My situation was just so unexpected … just an unfortunate situation. I woke up to it,” Chandler told The New York Post Thursday. “It was a hurtful feeling. Nothing against them. I don’t hate the organization, it’s a great organization. But everybody was shocked. I was shocked. I woke up to messages of it. I was asleep.”

Chandler was no Ja Morant, averaging less than 3 points a game last season, but he was starting to show some serious promise as his minutes increased. Nevertheless, the Grizzlies decided to move on and Chandler, still looking to bet on himself, made his way to Brooklyn to play Summer League with the Nets Friday night.

And he played well despite Brooklyn’s loss to Cleveland. The former Tennessee point guard totaled 16 points with 5 rebounds, 3 assists and a block.

But it was quite the block:

Chandler still has an uphill battle ahead of him for a true rotational spot in the NBA with the Nets. However, first impressions are important!
