Maui Ahuna, a former Kansas shortstop who is projected to be a potential first-round draft pick in 2023, has announced a transfer commitment to play in the SEC.

Ahuna, who is originally from Hawaii, committed to play at Tennessee after he hit .396 for the Jayhawks, with 8 home runs and 48 RBIs. He slugged .634 and had an on-base percentage of .479.

Ahuna is a case of the rich getting richer, as Tennessee is the No. 1 team in the land, and set to host Notre Dame this weekend in Super Regional action.

Ahuna was ranked as the No. 32 shortstop in the nation by D1Baseball and is the publication’s No. 36 draft prospect for the 2023 draft. He’s also ranked the No. 32 shortstop in the nation by D1Baseball, the No. 4 MLB Draft prospect for 2023 in the Big 12 by Baseball America, No. 5 MLB Draft prospect for 2023 in the Big 12 by D1Baseball and No. 9 MLB Draft prospect for 2023 in the Big 12 by Perfect Game.

Tennessee this season is 56-7 overall record and finished 25-5 record in SEC play.

The crowds in recent postseason games in Knoxille no doubt helped Ahuna make his decision. Coach Tony Vitello talked about that ahead of the series against Notre Dame. Vitello has said the biggest advantage is having Vols fans in attendance to make Lindsey Nelson Stadium a raucous environment as they try to advance to the College World Series field.
