McKenzie Milton has taken a job on Josh Heupel’s staff at Tennessee as an offensive analyst, Tennessee announced.

The former UCF and Florida State quarterback played for Heupel at UCF from 2018-20, and Tennessee athletics director Danny White was also at UCF at the time.

“I couldn’t be more excited about starting my coaching career at Tennessee and reuniting with Coach Heupel,” Milton said. “I am grateful to Coach Heupel and Director of Athletics Danny White for giving me this opportunity. Their leadership makes a difference. I look forward to helping the program in any way I can.”

Milton is known to college football fans from leading the Knights to an undefeated season in 2017, and then in 2018, Milton suffered a devastating injury that nearly forced the amputation of his right leg. He missed the 2019 and 2020 seasons, but offered leadership and helped in the development of Dillon Gabriel, now at Oklahoma.

Milton led the Knights to 27-6 record as a starter along with 2 AAC championships, 2 New Year’s Six Bowl appearances and multiple top-10 Heisman Trophy finishes.

White and Heupel supported Milton during his rehab, and when he completed his three-year rehab journey and made his return to the field with the Seminoles, both White and Heupel sent their well wishes.

His inspirational journey was recognized as he earned the 2021 Mayo Clinic Comeback Player of the Year and the ACC Piccolo Award. He also was a nominee for the Orange Bowl FWAA Courage Award.
