Rece Davis may have some explaining to do after leaving out Tennessee of his final AP Top 25 ballot.

Davis got the chance to participate in the final ballot of the season now that the national championship has concluded. Davis has been with ESPN’s College GameDay since 2015, when he took over as the host for Chris Fowler. Davis also hosts the basketball edition of GameDay.

Iowa, which Tennessee beat in the Citrus Bowl 35-0, was ranked at No. 18. Kansas State, NC State, Clemson, Kansas, SMU, Tulane, and Liberty were the teams ranked under Iowa. The Vols finished at No. 17 in the College Football Playoff Rankings and Coaches Poll to close out the season. The Hawkeyes are No. 24 in the CFP Rankings and No. 22 in the Coaches Poll.

The Vols finished the season with 9 wins after the Citrus Bowl. It was the 3rd consecutive season that Josh Heupel has taken Tennessee to a bowl game. Heupel has won back-to-back bowl games with his most recent win. Other SEC teams that made the cut included Alabama (No. 4), Georgia (No. 5), Missouri (No. 8), Ole Miss (No. 9), and LSU (No. 11).

Tennessee fans may not be as forgiving with Davis after the Alabama graduate disrespected the Vols in his poll.
